ENGINEERING CALCULATORS

Roller pitch, support count and load per roller calculator

Engineering calculators (Beta)

Move the footprint over the roller grid to inspect contact counts, then calculate a per-roller rating from a separately entered effective sharing count and multiplier.

Inputs

Choose units and enter numbers. Full-width digits and fractions such as 1/8 or 1 3/8 are accepted. Changing a unit converts the entered value.

Results

Reference calculation only. Results do not certify suitability for an actual design or its safety.

Formula and applicability

nmin=floor(L/p); nmax=floor(L/p)+1 (closed endpoints); Creq=kmg/ne; pmax=L/nt. Geometric contacts do not establish actual load sharing.

Displayed values are rounded. Diagrams illustrate the calculation conditions. Initial material and fluid properties are examples; replace them with values for the actual material, temperature and conditions.

Equations assume particular loads, supports and deformation ranges. Check inputs, units and the applicability of each equation. Diagrams explain conditions; they are not manufacturing drawings or proof of safety.

Material values are typical values or reference ranges, not certified product properties or ready-to-use design allowables. They vary with standards, product form, dimensions, temper and temperature. Check the specifications and inspection certificates for the actual product.

Displayed safety factors and checks apply only to the supplied inputs and calculation model. They do not automatically establish the safety of a complete design, including code compliance, service life, fatigue or joints. For actual design, manufacture and use, separately verify applicable regulations and standards, product specifications, and the necessary tests and engineering review.

What this calculator does

Move the footprint over the roller grid to inspect contact counts, then calculate a per-roller rating from a separately entered effective sharing count and multiplier.

Inputs, outputs and applicability

Inputs

  • Effective supporting footprint length L along travel
  • Roller centre pitch p
  • Roller outside diameter D for the layout
  • Mass m of one product
  • Assumed effective load-sharing count ne
  • Application/loading multiplier k (example)
  • Applicable allowable load C per roller (example)
  • Target minimum geometric contact count nt
  • Product position q within one pitch interval

Results

  • Per-roller required rating Creq under the sharing assumption (N)
  • Minimum geometric contact count over a pitch (rollers)
  • Maximum geometric count including endpoint contacts (rollers)
  • Geometric contact count at the current position (rollers)
  • Maximum geometric pitch for the target contact count (mm)
  • Entered per-roller rating / required rating (—)
  • Product gravity load W (N)

nmin=floor(L/p); nmax=floor(L/p)+1 (closed endpoints); Creq=kmg/ne; pmax=L/nt. Geometric contacts do not establish actual load sharing.

Geometric model of equal-height, equally spaced straight rollers beneath a continuous flat footprint. Require L/p≤40, 0≤q≤100%, 0<D<p, integer 1≤ne≤nmin, nt≥2 and k≥1. Endpoint contacts are counted geometrically but may carry no actual load. Do not divide load automatically by contact count; establish effective sharing ne from footprint stiffness, CG, roller height errors and impact. nt=3 and ne=2 are examples, not universal manufacturer rules. Avoid duplicate allowance through k and ne. With nmin<2, this model cannot establish stable support. Separately check CG, compliance/discontinuous bottoms, transfers/overhang/drop, frame/bearing strength and dynamic reactions.
