UNIT CONVERTER

Pressure

Torr and mmHg differ slightly. Water and mercury columns use conventional values; psi uses pound-force.

Result

SI / metric also includes non-SI metric units. Check distinctions such as US and UK units.

About pressure conversion

Choose the input and output units, then enter a number. The result updates on this device.

Conversion examples (rounded)

  • 1 MPa = 10 bar
  • 10 MPa = 100 bar

Some supported units: Pa · kPa · MPa · GPa · mbar · bar (18 units in this category).

Torr and mmHg differ slightly. Water and mercury columns use conventional values; psi uses pound-force.

Converting MPa, bar and kgf/cm²

Pa = MPa × 1,000,000; bar = MPa × 10

  • 1 MPa = 10 bar
  • 1 MPa = 10.19716213 kgf/cm²
  • 1 psi = 6.894757293 kPa

Examples are rounded; choose the required display digits in the converter.

Does conversion change gauge pressure into absolute pressure?

A unit conversion does not change the pressure reference. To compare gauge and absolute pressure, separately account for the surrounding absolute pressure. The f in kgf/cm² denotes force.

Converting MPa to kN requires an area

MPa is pressure or stress; kN is force. They cannot be converted by a unit factor alone. For a uniform pressure normal to an area, F [kN] = p [MPa] × A [mm²] ÷ 1,000. For example, 1 MPa acting over 1,000 mm² gives 1 kN. For a pneumatic cylinder, losses, rod area and opposing pressure also matter.

kg/mm² and kgf/mm²

kg is mass and kgf is force. For stress notation, check that kg/mm² actually means kgf/mm². 1 kgf/mm² = 9.80665 MPa; 1 MPa = 1 N/mm². Use stress and modulus conversion for material values.
